IPL Treatments

What is IPL?

Shaving, waxing, tweezing and hair removal creams have been replaced by technology known as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) akin to a flashing laser. At Radiance Hair & Beauty we use the world’s leading IPL system by Ellipse. The treatment uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a special and safe flash lamp to remove unwanted hair from all body sites in minutes…and the results are both impressive and long lasting (in many cases permanently).

How Does Ellipse Treatment Work?

The ellipse operator guides the light from the flash-lamp to the treatment area. The unique Ellipse I.P.L System carefully filters this light in two ways to ensure that only the light with the correct characteristics (wavelengths) is allowed to reach your skin. Hair contains pigment (melanin) that absorbs the light and converts it into heat. The hair transmits this heat into the hair follicle, which is then destroyed and rendered unable to produce a new hair. To ensure optimal light transmission to the hair, a thin layer of gel (similar to that used in ultrasound examinations) is applied to your skin before treatment. The operator then moves the hand-held applicator over the entire treatment area exactly one applicator width after each flash of light.

What kind of results can you get from a Venus Freeze treatment?

Tighter skin, softening of wrinkles, plumper, fuller and more youthful appearance, reduced cellulite and a more contoured silhouette.

Can All Hairs Be Treated?

As the treatment relies on absorption of light to the hair pigment (melanin) , the most efficient treatment is seen with dark hair. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the distinction between the hair and skin colour, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse had pre-programmed settings for different hair and skin colours to adjust the energy output for your needs.

How Long Does Ellipse Treatment Take?

The glass prism within the Ellipse applicator that guides the light to the skin is 10mm by 48mm, so a large number of hairs can be targeted in one flash of light. Treatment of the upper lip takes approx 5 minutes, whereas a back or both legs takes 60-120 minutes.

Does It Hurt?

Tolerance of pain differs from person to person. No anaesthetics are required, and most people describe the sensation as similar to that of a rubber band snapping on the skin. You must feel some sensation during treatment to ensure it is working, however you must not feel too uncomfortable.

Do I Need to Take Special Precautions Before And After Treatment?

The light used is completely safe, visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Ellipse Dual Mode Filtering System. It is important NOT to remove hair by plucking, tweezing, waxing or use of creams during the entire four weeks before treatment, this ensures that as many follicles as possible contain a hair and thus can be destroyed by the light. Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is also important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium, or self-tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective and can result in a burn. Generally no post treatment care is necessary. But people with very sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing cream for a few days after treatment. It is also recommended to limit sun exposure and to use sunscreen (min SPF 30) for a few weeks following treatment.

How Many Ellipse Treatments Do I Need?

Hair growth is cyclical, as hair follicles go through resting and growing phases. Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair and are destroyed by the heat. Resting hair follicles need to enter the growing phase before they can be treated effectively destroyed by the Ellipse treatment. That’s why it is necessary to repeat the treatments at intervals until all hair follicles have been through the growth phase. The length and timing of the growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body site, hair density, thickness, origin, hormone status and age. Clinical studies have confirmed that at least 3-6 treatments are needed and the intervals between treatments are typically 1-3 months.

How Can I Be Sure Ellipse Is Safe And Effective?

Clinical trials documenting Ellipse’s safety and effectiveness are carried out by leading doctors prior to the release of the product. The results of these tests are published in respected, refereed medical journals. You are welcome to view these scientific papers on the Ellipse website at www.ellipse.org. The settings used for your treatment will be based on the settings recommended by the clinicians who carried out the clinical trials.

Venus Freeze

What is Venus Freeze?

Venus Freeze is a device used to treat wrinkles, rhytides, tighten skin, reduce cellulite and reduce circumferential fat. Using RF and (MP)2 technology, this device delivers multi-polar radio frequency and magnetic pulsed fields to the skin to produce a dense and uniform heat matrix. This causes collagen synthesis and contraction, fibroblast proliferation, neo-vascularity and lipolysis.

What makes Venus Freeze different from other treatments?

There is no pain, no downtime and reliable results. It is FDA approved equipment, tried and tested across the media and industry medics + millions of treatments have already been carried out across the world. The Venus Freeze has been under the consumer microscope.

What kind of results can you get from a Venus Freeze treatment?

Tighter skin, softening of wrinkles, plumper, fuller and more youthful appearance, reduced cellulite and a more contoured silhouette.

How successful are the treatments?

Most patients see a result in as little as three treatments however, we advise a full series of six treatments for the face and eight to ten treatments on the body. We recommend that you maintain your result with Venus Freeze treatments once a month.

When can I expect to see results?

Patients begin to see results typically in three treatments but we advise that they complete the series of six, eight or ten to see the full results. Patients continue to see an improvement in their skin up to three months after the series of treatments is complete.

Is there any pain or discomfort involved?

None! In fact, most patients nap or just simply relax during the treatment. The sensation is pleasant and warm. You can watch a few testimonials here.

How safe are the treatments and are there any contraindications or side effects?

Radio Frequency and magnetic pulses have been used for many years in medicine and are proven, safe technologies. There are no side effects other than looking terrific and the contraindications are standard with all treatments. Your treatment provider will review your medical history and your aesthetic goals to see if Venus Freeze is the right treatment for you.

What is it like to have a treatment?

As you lay comfortably on a treatment bed, the technician will apply a treatment gel to the skin. This lotion helps the applicator glide on the surface of your skin. The correct size applicator is selected and the treatment provider will then begin to apply smooth and consistent movements on the surface of the skin. This feels like a wonderful warm massage. We encourage our patients to close their eyes and take this time to just relax and enjoy the quiet and focused time for them.

How does the Venus technology work?

Venus (MP)2 works by incorporating Multi-Polar Radio Frequency and Magnetic Pulsed Fields into one device and delivering it safely and effectively to the patient. Skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and cellulite reduction occur because the multi-polar radio frequency causes a thermal response in the tissue which activates the body`s natural healing response. That healing response causes new collagen to form, new elastin fibres and the production of fibroblasts to increase. The existing collagen in the skin contracts (this causes the skin to look and feel firmer) and the elastin fibre to unravel (which makes the skin more elastic). Body contouring is achieved when the temperature of the skin is elevated, the body releases stress hormones. These hormones pass through the blood stream, and attach themselves to specific receptors on the membrane of the fat cell in the hypodermis (the deepest layer of the skin). The stress hormone, once attached to the receptor, activates the hormone sensitive lipase – the hormone that is in charge of breaking down triglycerides into free fatty acids. The free fatty acids exit the fat cell through the blood stream and the volume of the fat cell is thus reduced giving you a smoother, more contoured shape.
